THE LEFTOVERS: DRAWINGS THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT

Charcoal drawing of a seated nude woman with short hair, gazing upwards.

2011, "Susan", 44" x 30", Charcoal and White Conté.

At the time, I had been working with Susan as a model for my life drawing classes a few years. She was the town "statue" and could be found standing in proper holiday costume, getting by on collected tips for a still performance commemorating the event.

This is the only straight forward nude I have ever done that I would consider worthy of hanging

kitty with the words "fuck you" across its chest.

2011, "Be My Valentine", 30" x 22", Charcoal, White Conté.

In  February 2011, my wife, Jane, called me while I was in NYC attending a conference to tell me she was divorcing me, she also asked if I was still going to make our annual Valentine's Playlist for her.

All of my close art friends told me not to make this comedic response.

I sold this drawing to a collector in Chicago. So fuck y'all.

2011, "Stink Eye", 30" x 22", Charcoal, White Conté.

Remember when we used to draw stuff on photos of people in our high school year book that we didn't like?

The photo reference came from one of our happier moments together.

2010, "Gummy Love", 14" x 14", Charcoal, White Conté.

I think I trashed this one.

2008, "American Standard", 41" x 28", Charcoal, White Conté.

I did this drawing as a response to an article I had read about 17 Massachusetts teen girls got pregnant in a pact to raise their kids together. These were literally children having children.

I wanted a Renaissance style to this. The figure was built in photoshop from different sources. And the title I found on a urinal at my work.

20011, "Untitled", 30" x 22", Charcoal, White Conté.

I have no idea why I created such thing. It looks like it should be a part of something else. I remember that I made this a snake ready to strike. At the time, I was also going through my last divorce and I was living with my mom. Maybe there's some kind of symbolism I was prodding with.
